That RRP of £8.49 inc VAT is equal to £7.07+VAT.

Yes fully aware of RRP price. I never use the RRP. at the same wholesalers i have seen them state the RRP less that the wholesale Price + VAT.
the same issue happens at a lot of wholesalers these days.
it is sometimes cheaper going to discount stores on the high street rather than wholesalers.
example diecast cars+trailer come in boxes of 8 and wholesale from £25+ VAT, yet i can go to poundland and get the exact car/trailer at £1 which means rather than having to sell at £5 I can sell at £2.500
