And it's people like these that make everyone skeptical when someone mentions work-related stress, meaning the only people that suffer are the real victims of an incredibly debilitating condition. What a scumbag.

    Exactly!

OH was so made he saw what I went through when I was ill and he was fuming.

He wouldn't let the guy come back as soon as his sick note ran out because he was concered for the member of staff's welfare as he knows how difficult depression can be he wanted confirmation from the doctor that he was feeling up to returning to work.:rotfl:

It took the guy 6 weeks before his doctor would confirm to OH that the guy was fit to return to work. Seeing as the guy was only getting SSP he was going mad

So glad OP that you've found something better. It's despicable that people will use it as an excuse when they're not suffering.

I would say to anyone to talk to your doctor about medication. It is scary (taking drugs that you know will affect your brain chemistry is incredibly scary), but they'll try you on something low, and if it's not helping, then try something else. (My first type of medication made mood swings worse, but the second type is actually helping.)

If it's available in your workplace, push for an appointment with your workplace healthcare assessment system (I can't remember the proper term for it!). Through my employer's sytem, I got to talk to a doctor for an hour! A whole hour! It was he that said I should speak to my GP about trying different medications, something I hadn't even realised was possible.
    :)
  • My work are amazing. I've not been off sick once since I started in April (sounds pathetic but I've struggled before, so 6 months is great!) and I recently called in to ask for a day's annual leave because although it was very short notice, I needed a day off.
Manager asked if it was just because I fancied a day off or if I had something planned, as it was a very busy period. I said I didn't have something planned but it had been a hard week and I was rather stressed. She was really wonderful, wanting to make sure it wasn't something at work that was the problem because if it was, she wanted to make sure she could do something to change the problem.
Work did exacerbate things, but it was more of a personal life problem.

If anyone has had trouble with managers brushing off stress, remember there are some that do understand and take it seriously.
