Tesco price match, they don't!

Options
You know how Tesco claim to match any rpice and refund the difference, well they don't. My wife bought some Persil Non Bio 2.1l at £8.00 from Tesco, it was £7.00 in Morrisons.

So you'd think she would have got a £1.00 off with the price match, she didn't. On that shop she only got 20p.

I sent Tesco an email asking about this, never got a reply. They did send out a customer satisfaction survey asking how my query was dealt with, but it wasn't.

So Tesco are pulling the wool over our eyes with their price match.

With things like the price match, all supermarkets should have to itemize which products they've matched so the customer knows exactly where these "savings" are coming from.

The promise is that overall your shopping will be cheaper at Tesco, its not per specific item sadly. I know I was caught out the same way

    From the Price Promise FAQ's

What if some comparable products are cheaper, but some are more expensive?

One item may have been cheaper somewhere else. But another item may have been cheaper from us. So to work out the overall difference, we look at all your comparable grocery products.
This ensures that you won’t pay more for your comparable grocery shop than you would at Asda, Sainsbury’s or Morrisons.

  • Put the details of the receipt into the price promise, you will then see clearly how different items complained

Yes they do, but on the overall shop not just a single item. Your entire basket is compared to what that same basket would have cost in Morrisons. Obviously something in your basket was more expensive in M, so that ate the £1 saving on the other product.

In a way, yes. The are saying one thing, knowing a good number of people will think something different.

The trick is to beat them at their own game. Research the prices before you shop, then split your shopping into two baskets, one with items that are cheaper in other stores and one with items that are not.

This happen today at Asda. Tesco sell 6+ month baby cartons milk for 0.55p. Asda 0.69p. Tried to do price guarantee and the cartons are not listed as a compare to other stores.

We're going on a motorhome holiday to an Scottish Island and need the cartons. Bought 45 cartons....and that's roughly £5/6.00 difference.

Is this not false advertising on the price promise guarantee ?

No because they only guarantee the total cost of your shopping, not individual items.

Formula will very rarely be included in any price match offers or promotions (first mlk never) as there are strict laws surrounding it's promotion in order to encourage breatfeeding as long as possible. You can't even get boots points on formula.
