Why are some emails not getting through to me?

My friend said he sent an email to me last week[I never received ..checked spam].Just assumed it was sent wrongly.But yesterday another friend sent me a quotation for some work he was going to do[which again I did not receive].The same morning he sent me another email about something else which I did receive.He has had no rejection email .So whats going on? as I get loads of other email ok.

    Possibly the attachment was too large for your inbox to accept, or for his to send?
    Name of the two/three ISPs's?
    What email program are you using?
    No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    Set up another email address and ask him to resend and cc the other email address in.

    If you receive it at the new address but not the existing one, you know the issue is either... they've got your address wrong or there's an issue with your email address receiving mail. If you get it to the new one you can check that they're using the right address.
    You'd be surprised at the amount of times I've had people at work, raising calls because they're having similar problems, and it's down to miss-spelt email addresses.

    Or you could just try emailing him/them and asking that they reply to that message. That often exposes the issue as a minor mis-spelling; trouble is, once an incorrectly-spelt address is in someone's recent contact list, that's the one that autocompletes or appears in a drop-down, and most people don't look that closely. If you don't get a reply from either friend, try one of the suggestions above.
