Any good reason for printing the security code on the back of a card?

One still needs to exercise caution, that is true. I certainly do and I've never come a cropper yet (fingers crossed).0 -
A1 Can you remember the last time that anyone checked the signature on your credit card?
Even when 'swipe readers' were in use, all those years ago, the signature checking was perfunctory, at best.
Um yes - several times recently when Chip and Pin didn't work. Probably at least once a month
But yes agree that mostly it's not done conscientiously0 -

You end up and swiping and signing once a month in the UK? Where are you lol? I maybe have one or two fallback swipe sign transactions in the UK a year (If that).0 -

The verified by visa is not as much of a safeguard as you might think.I noticed that when I used one of my cards that was" verified by visa" up popped "forgotten your password" I tried the link to see what happened and was very surprised to be able to input a new password and continue the transaction!:0 -

VBV stores the IP addresses and inserts cookies onto devices, so assuming you've used that device before and both match, the bank will be allowed to do that.0 -

One of the local supermarkets seems to have a few dodgy terminals - either that or my card is beginning to fail0 -

Ah. I must admit, I had an Amex like that a few years ago. I'd often get "Chip error, re-insert" then on the 3rd attempt it would make me swipe.
One of the tills at my local Sainsbury's seems to have something against Amex and MasterCard as well and they always have to manually key it in and you have to sign. Been like that for well over 6 months. NCP Car parks also still seem to use the magnetic stripe as they don't ask for a PIN.
I've had the opposite in the US though, where a merchant has a chip terminal but has never seen a chip card and will just keep swiping through the card and it will just say "Use Chip", thats always fun trying to explain to them that they have to insert. They normally make me sign as well as enter my PIN!0
