EDF direct debit not taken

My electricity direct debit was not taken on 1 October as it should have been. My bank confirmed there was nothing wrong with my account and that the debit simply hadn't been requested by EDF.

I contacted EDF and they said a number of people have reported this, but they don't know what the problem is. They are going to investigate.

Anyone else with EDF might like to check their accounts to see if their direct debits have been taken correctly. I thought I'd post something here in case anyone else searches for it as I can't find a discussion of this issue anywhere.

Mine was taken on 30/9 as normal.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Thanks for posting this...

My DD with EDF was set for £65 on 1st month, starting in October. They took £45.10. Did not have chance to telephone them to query, and I got no letters to tell me anything had changed, did not even get a confirmation letter about the £65 being set, but see 'now' it is showing on my online EDF account.

3 days later they attempted to take another DD, for £65! It bounced, am going to be charged now £10 by the bank.

Have emailed EDF and I await there response, am not impressed since this was a new bank account, and bouncing a direct debit does not leave a good impression with the bank!

Speak to your bank. This is an incorrect direct debit so the bank should refund the amount and any charges immediately under the Direct Debit Guarantee.
