Please help I am very worried regarding eBay!

I sold two items - a hairdryer and a games console. I sold the hairdryer for £12.00 and the games console for £70.00

I withdrew the money from PayPal. I recently lost my job and I needed to pay for something. I have no other source of income or any money at all.

The hairdryer person said that it did not work and asked for a refund, so she sent it back to me and PayPal send the refund through as an 'eCheque' as I didn't have sufficient funds. Yesterday she emailed me saying that the refund failed, I'm assuming because there is nothing in my PayPal account.

Now to add to the problem, the games console person said that they changed their mind and wanted a refund (I had not sent it out yet). Again, the refund went through as an 'eCheque' but there is nothing in my account. I am certain this will fail as well...

I have no money in my bank account and no money in my PayPal account. My parents are paying off bills so they cannot afford to help this month.

I am extremely worried and I don't know what to do, especially as the games console person seems quite rude and angry judging by their messages to me. I cannot afford to refund them. I know I should have waited for a while until I withdrew the money.. but I desperately needed it. Please help. I couldn't sleep last night as I was worrying about it so much. :(

I am 19 by the way.

Please help me. Can eBay pay them, and I can find a way to pay eBay back?

Is there something else you can sell to get your Paypal balance back up? You could possibly list it on a buy it now?

I think if you are a private seller (not a business) you do not have to take returns unless the item is not as described or faulty. Did the hairdryer actually work?

Ok, but you've still got the games console you could either send a second chance offer or relist this weekend on three days maybe?

Take the games console to CEX and get cash for it.

Sorry things are so tight for you at the mo.

First, nothing is going to happen to you, so don't worry about it too much. Try and address it by telling the truth, to the buyers and Ebay ask for some time to sort it out. As suggested above, try and get enough cash from selling the console. If you can't do that, offer a weekly payment to the buyers if it doesn't get sorted by Ebay/Paypal, if they do sort it, offer them the payment.

As I said at the beginning nothing will happen to you, you won't be arrested and it's extremely unlikely you'd be taken to court. For your own piece of mind try and sort it as quick as you can but don't put too much pressure on yourself to do so.

If you do get into more financial problems, contact Citizen's Advice or talk it through with a friendly more experienced relative or friend.
