I bought a marble fireplace just over a year ago. It has started to crack and a piece of marble at the bottom has cracked off completely. Ive phoned where i bought it and they are going to get back to me on monday. How do i stand with this being over a year old .

Doesn't sound fit for purpose under the trade descriptions act if it's only that old, and nothing has happened to damage it.0

It is dependant on what you have been doing with it and what type of fire you have put in it too.
If it was supply only, then unless you have bedded it down correctly with a cement base, any shock to the marble will make it crack. Especially if you or someone else has stood on it.
The fire also makes a difference. If you have an HE fire installed and the back panel is in one piece, then it will crack. Same for Balanced flue fires too. It will also crack, if the seal around the opening for the fire isn't sealed correctly.
People think marble is as tough as old boots, you cannot be further away from the truth. If it is not handled correctly or is incorrectly installed, then this will happen. That it why it shouldn't be a DIY job.
Be ready for a lot of questions getting asked before a remedy is offered.0 -
OP has also posted in the Consumer Rights forum, which is probably the best place to continue with the responses as it is a consumer rights issue.0
