Can I claim back a flight & hotel booking via MasterCard for a postponed football match in Glasgow in region of £200. Lloyds are sending me a claim form. What are my chances ?

I think it unlikely, this would be more properly a travel insurance claim, and as the event is still going ahead (but at a different timeframe) your flight and accommodation was still available.

Glasgow's pretty good any time of year!

If the flight wasn't a part of some package then the answer is definitely "No" as the airline has not breached anything. As Buzby said, this is a typical case for travel insurance.

Re the refund for the ticket it would be reasonable to ask the supplier for a refund first before appealing to the CC company.

EDIT: on the second thought, theoretically you can claim for consequential losses, but it's highly unlikely that the CC company will cover them voluntarily.

I don't know why they're even bothering sending you a claim form.
  • The game has been postponed to a latter date, that I will probably be unable to make. The argument could be that though the game is off, you could still come to Glasgow right?
  • Football tickets are always sold on the basis that the match could be moved to a different date. ( Well MAN UTD anyway)
Most clubs will refund if you contact the club office if you cannot make the new date - face value ticket price only.

You may only have a case if you booked everything as a package otherwise the club is not responsible for hotel and travel costs.
  • I've been told I will get match ticket / stadium tour refund direct from club (£30) :jMy point is that the only reason I was going to Glasgow was to see the game. I booked hotel & flights separately. The cancellation was out of my hands, but it seems like I will lose out.

I spoke to Lloyds TSB... and they are sending a claim form out to me :j
  • Yes you bought the football tickets and you will get a refund for those.

As I said UNLESS you purchased the whole thing as a package then forms or not you will not succeed in your claim.
  • Oh well....sounds like I've no chance. I'm still going to submit the form though ;)
