Why is it a problem? You choose whether or not to buy.

If it is illegal then surely TS have far more important real scams and ripoffs to deal with.

Its important as if its lacking info that is legally required regarding allergens. Then customers could become ill.

Other than that I will agree its your choice as if it does not display the product weight. Then your own fault for buying it and not being happy with the weight of the item.
Others will disagree with this as there are many complaints when supermarkets have reduced the product weight but kept the packaging the same.

I think you have those two the wrong way round!

The OP was talking about a can of coke - if somebody's buying coke then I'd bet my pension on it not being the first time they've bought a can of coke, would they really read the outside wrapper of a multipack of coke to make sure there are no 'allergens'?

I think the article makes it quite clear that although something may be technically illegal, TS would cosnider how likely it actually was to affect people.

As mentioned, most people know what Cola is so the chances of someone dying from an allergic reaction are slim. It might be different on less well known products.

Not particularly. Roughly speaking, you can sell !!!!!! you want in a shop.

But, if it's consumable items, eg food/drinks, you have to have available legally (to keep trading standards happy):

    Size
    Ingredients

    In some cases:

    Place of origin
    Nutritional values

I'd be 99% sure a multipack can of coke has all these on, if not, the retailer should be able to make then available, in the same way that if you bought an item of a deli counter, and wanted this information, they could show you the whole sale packaging.

The only people who might have a problem are the manufacturing franchisor, but that's a civil matter, not a criminal one.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

It is only the corner shop who is losing a bit because he can not then claim back the VAT.

Why can't they claim the VAT back?

Things like this happen more and more now.

I can give you an example from a retailers eyes.

I sell toys and the price of die cast cars have shot up in price over the last views years.
car/trailer packs are sold wholesale in boxes of 8 with a wholesale price from £25+VAT (£30) so £3.13+VAT (£3.76) so have to retail £5 min. Yet i can go into poundland and get the exact car/trailer pack for £1. So i can get 30 for the price of 8 wholesale and sell them at £2.50 each .

Our local Co-op is always splitting mutipacks up

he would only be able to claim the VAT back if he was VAT registered, if he was VAT registered and went to Tesco and purchased several multipacks then yes as Tesco is VAT registered and the VAT number is on the till receipt then he can claim the VAT back.
