He does gamble and was gambling at the time of this fraud, he has previously opened accounts with both of the sites in question, the new accounts were created in his name and the western union transfer happened over a week after the gambling, which would look very much like someone was trying to fictionalise fraud.
What was the limit on the card? If the card limit is roughly what was spent and there are not a variety of failed transactions I will be very surprised if they do decide it's fraud. Anyone could use a VPN to alter the country of origin of their requests to the site, so even if they discover that the IP from where the transactions came does not match the same country as the OPs, that's easy to explain away.
Writing again on phone so apologies for inevitable typos
Thanks for the two comments above...i completely agree and had been a huge concern when I learnt nature of transactions.
Just to clear it - the first two transaction were with bookmaker betvictor. The account was looked on the 9 th August they had requested documents (quite routine). It appears there is 1800 + still there. Western union was made a few days later. And betway a few days after that. There is no balance I believe in beyway. All very very strange, as suggested elsewhere looks like someone having a grudge and laugh at my expense. Except I am sure it was the cleaners.... Why they or who they passed details onto have used this way seems very strange.
I spoke with santandet this morning asking amongst other things if it was possible to find out any other attempts on my card.No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30 -
If you suspect your cleaners, have you told Santander this ? Are you prepared to report them to the police ?0

This is a bit weird now, you've gone from thinking it was outright third-party to now thinking that it was someone "on the inside" as it were.
I think that you are going to have a bit of a hard time getting the bank to refund you here, as you are now at the point of saying that it was done by someone with access to your house and your card, as opposed to someone on the outside.
Youo are very likely to have to report your cleanres to the police if you want the bank to treat them as the perpetrators.
Without for a moment suspecting you myself, you need to realise that your story does look, from the uotside, very like that of someone who spent the money themselves and now regrets it.0 -

Fair enough... However since day one the cleaners were suspected. The bank were told this from day one. I didn't go out my way to say to the bank the cleaners.... Were guilty just logically they were the only possible suspects as fast as I can ascertain. If at the end of this I am liable I will definitely be going to police (expecting little but I will be trying) obviously set that point I will have taken the hit, I would not be expecting any money back)
I am not coming here to try to defend myself, though possibly will end up in court doing so in court, if that action is needed or indeed advisable.
I will have a lengthy letter of appeal sent tomorrow, if the bank are not willing to stop interest I will probably pay off in interim. Unfortunately and understandably for all the reasons above the bank , ombus and court may not side with me. Hopefully the fact that I am not in any way financially troubled andthe being activity is completely out of the ordinary and hopefully dates and times will be in my favor , we will see.No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30
