This is illegal in Spain (and France?) but, because it is legal here, under EU regulations they have to allow it for British registered motorcaravans on the continent. The trouble is that not many Spanish traffic police know this.......
Are you sure its legal here? Im led to believe it isnt unless the dolly is used for recovery to a safe place.0 -
But with a foreign registered car, it needs to conform to the registration requirements of the country its registered in.
Under french law, you cannot tow an unregistered trailer. But an exemption is made for british who are travelling through - because the trailer is legal under british law it is allowed.
But it is hard for the OP to make his car+trailer combination legal. It's not a UK vehicle, so he can't claim our exemption on trailer registration (and use the same number plate as the car).
As I saif above. as long as his insurance company are OK with it, I would risk it.The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Just checked my self. DOT say a frames are ok if breaking and lighting regs are met. Dollies are for recovery only not for transport from a to b. A frames good. Dollies probbably bad.0 -
We lived in France for many years and had this problem. As others have said your trailer must comply with the rules of the country the towing car is registered with. So for France the trailer must be registered there with its own registered number plate.
A lot of ex-pats ignore this rule and get away with it BUT you will not be insured!
Another problem we found with driving a French car in the UK is that we are not insured to drive a UK reg. car on our French insurance.0
