Probably as long as from the USA - 6 to 8 weeks.

The USA has done away with surface mail as of 14th May this year, by the way.

At least it has stopped the Sellers from charging for airmail then sending by surface, which happened in my family a few times. Probably not done deliberately but happened anyway.

I have routinely waited up to 12 weeks for surface mail from relatives in Canada before. On other occasions it has been as quick as 2-3 weeks..so I supose it depends on how busy things are.

A lot of Surface mail actually goes Airmail on a space available case. It may take a few weeks to a month to get to the UK, then there are often delays at Customs or in the sorting offices.

In the olden days it went by ship and the transit time depended on whether it go containerized and loaded before the ship sailed. Otherwise you may have to wait another two to three weeks for the next ship on that mail route...

I think you would be lucky to get it in six weeks. 8-12 weeks is more likely in my experience. Although I did once receive an item sent surface mail from the US in 4 days!! I think that went into the airmail delivery ...

I've been stung by a paypal dispute - the buyer in Australia would only pay for Surface Mail - takes up to 56 days from UK.

Paypal disputes can only be raised within 45 days of transaction, so if the item is still in transit then paypal can refund the buyer and then the item turns up a week later.

I now refuse to offer buyers outside the EU a surface mail option.

I am the same....I will not negotiate for surface mail to overseas buyers as it is too risky with paypal time frames for a chargeback. My auctions clearly show all the airmail options for costs depending on where a buyer lives. On the odd occasions someone e mails to ask whether I would consider surface I just politely decline.
