Yale PBS2 door lock dilemma

Hi, we want to get a specific door lock (night latch) for our house that is insurance approved. The one we are interested in is the Yale PBS2, we want one on the porch door and one on the front door. Because we are having two of these locks, we want them to both work off the same key. I am after a locksmith that can do thus for me as I wouldn't have thought it to be an expensive adjustment. I can buy these for about £50 each at certain stores. The stores that offer this service state it's an extra £4 for the service but the charge for the lock is more than double the other retailers. Can anyone advise of a skilled locksmith that could do this for me, local TW12. As I feel like I'm being forced into paying over the odds for the product in order to get the extra service I'm after. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

add a www and a dot :) this was one of the first I found

or search for keyed alike or suited locks

    hope this helps
  • Thanks for response but both of these fall into the issue I have. Ironmongery direct sell them at a good price as do various other places but they don't supply them keyed alike. The places that give the option of keyed alike sell the locks at more than twice the price of the other places us the cost of the "keyed alike" option.
I just want to purchase the locks at a good price and then get then altered at a reasonable price, I don't feel that I'm asking alot but seem to be held to ransom because of what I'm after.

Can anyone else offer any advise, thanks.

I'm curious but why would you want two locks to be operated by the same key. This is surely a security risk if a thief gets hold of the key he will open both locks? Surely cannot be that much more effort to have two keys on one key ring?

  • I am in and out of the house a lot so to have to use 2 keys every time whilst carrying bits in etc. seems like a pain. Also my keyring is already packed full of keys for house, mums, workshop, office etc. just trying to simplify life a bit and this seemed like it should be easy but is proving so far to be a pain. Lots of locksmiths don't actually want to work on locks, just sell them and make more money on call outs for emergencies. In after an old style craftsman that knows how things work and charges a reasonable price for a skilled job. Hoping thing someone can offer some help, thanks.

Yes. Buy one at the cheap price. The take your key to the place that will do keyed alike and ask for one lock to your key.

????? So if you have different locks, a thief will require both keys before he takes advantage? You learn something every day ....
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'
  • All the companies that offer keyed alike as an option (expensive companies) are all on-line companies. It's a pain!

Hi have you tried Ebay ?
  • I can get the standard locks even cheaper on EBay, this issue is getting them keyed alike. So eBay makes the whole dilemma even more annoying and getting keyed alike locks from an online supplier seem even more of a rip off.

    Have you tried this place:

Otherwise, talk to your local locksmith shop and see if it's a service they can offer?
