untrusted connection to google on firefox

I'd be really grateful if anyone could help me with this - I've tried everything!

recently, when I try to go on google.uk or google.com in Firefox, it gives an 'untrusted connection' error message. I can connect fine in IE but not in Firefox.

I tried resetting my clock as suggested on youtube. no effect.

I tried deleting my cert8db file as Mozilla suggest (the error message says the connection is untrusted because it has no authorised signature). no effect.

I have added an exception to force Firefox to connect to the site (despite the dire warnings of doom from Firefox in doing so) and it connects that one time, then as soon as I shut Firefox down and reopen, it gives the error message again. I can't be bothered to keep doing this, and in any case I'm worried that the dire warnings of doom may be right and I will lose my identity and all my money if I keep doing this.

I have tried resetting Firefox, and uninstalling and reinstalling, but to no avail.

I am now going crazy - I prefer Firefox and don't want to go back to IE but will have to if I can't use Google. is it possible that it genuinely is an untrusted connection and someone is trying to impersonate Google? if so, why does IE let me connect?

please help!!!
many thanks in advance.

Most the time it's because your DATE is wrong. But then you should get the same message in IE too, unless you access the secure site (https) in Firefox and the normal unsecured (http) site in IE.

Can you confirm that your DATE is correct, not only the TIME?
  • yep, date is definitely correct... I've just given up now, uninstalled firefox completely and am just using IE. I may install firefox again in a month or so and see if any updates made in the interim fix it.

    thanks anyway.
