Eon DD discount only 3.92% this quarter?

Maybe I am just unlucky, checking my bill for the 30th September I discover the 4% direct debit discount isn't 4% its 3.92%. That does not sound much but if Eon has stolen 9p off all its customers this quarter that must be a tidy sum.
I checked the 2 previous quarters and the discount is spot on 4%.
Total bill this quarter £111.23, Eon says discount is £4.36 I get it to £4.45

Has anyone else noticed this?

Sorry Sandybanks but I'm at somewhat of a loss on this one.

The discount for residential customers paying with a Monthly Direct Debit is 6 per cent before VAT.

The only 4 per cent discounts I'm aware of are for certain business accounts. Again, though, this would be applied before VAT.

  • Hi Malc, yes you are right it is a business account but 4% should be 4%! Here are the figures from the past 3 bills. As your system does not total the usage and the standing charge before it calculates the discount it is harder to spot your computer making the error.

    APRIL BILL
    Units £233.09
    standing £18.79
    Total £251.88 DD £10.04 =4%

    JULY BILL
    Units £116.10
    standing £21.09
    Total £137.19 DD £5.49 =4%

    SEPT BILL
    Units £92.21
    standing £19.02
    Total £111.23 DD £4.36 =3.92%

Please tell me how this could happen?

    Hi Sandybanks

I see. To be honest, my knowledge of business accounts is sketchy at best. I'd have a talk to our business section (contact details are on your bills).

I do know the Direct Debit discount is taken off the energy consumption and standing charges before VAT and the Climate Change Levy (if applicable) are added.

There are, though, other aspects to business accounts that might come into play and that I'm unaware of so I'd better not speculate further.

As I say, our business advisors will have full access to your account and will be able to explain how the charges/discounts are worked out.
