MSE News: Pensioners face energy hike as Eon withdraws tariff
Comments
-
We are both pensioners and have been on the Eon Age Uk tarriff for the past two years, this finishes in June.
Any tips on what is the best way forward as following my meter reading the monthly D/D has been adjusted from £115 to £127pm?
On the Eon Energy site I cannot access what tariffs are available as it is more than 52 days away.
TIA
ps: Our boiler is now 31 years old but we are not on benefits, the pilot light goes out now and again, so this is something else we need to be considering, yes it was serviced about 6 months ago:)
Put your consumption figures (available on any bill) and your postcode into a price comparison site. It's very unlikely an "Age UK" tariff will be cheapest.
I just did a comparison for my region, using average consumption. Eon's Age UK tariff came 37th cheapest. There were 3 year fixes that were cheaper, and even 2 other eon tariffs were cheaper. Why Age UK continue to put their name to this rubbish baffles me.0 -
E.On is re-assuringly expensive. They have excellent customer service, which no doubt you are pleased to pay for. The E.On FixOnline tariffs were fabulously cheap, circa 2009 to 2011, and I had my 80 year old mother on them, but E.On has not been competitive for the last three years.
The Age UK tariff has always been uncompetitive.
These days, anything that says "It's for charity, ain'it" is a scheme designed to gouge money out of you. One day soon, they will simply point a Kalashnikov to the head of a horse, and say "Send money, or Mr. Ed gets it."
Pilot light going out is typically a sensor problem, which just has to be replaced. The engineer wouldn't know if it doesn't go out during the service. All you have to do is tell him to bring the part for the next visit.0 -

The most probable reason for the pilot light going out is the thermocouple. An inexpensive part and a very simple job to replace.0
