Currency for Tunisia.

Hiya, we are heading to Tunisia on Sunday, and were wondering if anyone could recommend the most suitable currency to take. We are aware that you have to change to Tunisian Dinars once in the country, but are we better taking Euros or US Dollars?

Thanks
Carol

Its a few years since I've been to Tunisia but we just took pounds. Sterling is also considered a "hard" currency and I've never had any problems changing it anywhere.

i went in February didn't take any money with us just used the ATM's out there you can tip in sterling and most people were happy to take sterling, depends if you need money as soon as you arrive ie: taxis then change a small amount at the airport when you arrive remember you can't bring any tunisian liars out of the country so just get what you need when you need it

We have just come back from Tunisia. We did the same as you Caroleuk. We used cashpoints there. They charge about 1% for you to use so if you get out 300 pouns, you get charged 3 pounds.

Dinars are quite easy to work out when you get the hang of it. 10 dinars is about 4 pounds. so 20 dinars 8 pounds, 50 dinars 20 pounds etc. etc.

We tipped about one or two dinars a time, one dinar is about 40p. We found they weren't too impressed with being tipped in euros, they prefer english pounds!!!!

    Hope this helps!
