sirdar crofter dk yarn-looks like'fairisle'

Options
I've got some of this to knit a child's hat. I already have lots of dk patterns so didn't buy one for this project. What is the secret to getting a good effect e.g I have blocks of plain colour and stripey bits but only want stripey bits. Is it something to do with the number of stitches? If you have use this yarn before you will know what I am trying (badly) to explain. I have only knitted 3" so far and have a thick 2" block of colour at the cast on edge.

If I understand it correctly, you are experiencing 'pooling' of one colour.

Sometimes, its just the way the dye runs or the design of the item your making but certain colours do tend to pool together and create blocks instead of varigated lines. hth.
