combi boiler mystery

hi,

I have inherited an old Ariston combi boiler with a house purchase. It has had a problem wit the hoot water heating for a while now, central heating is fine. Issue is that when heating water the system occasionally fails and a red warning light comes on (this also stops ch too). The issue is sometimes associate with a drop in pressure (and can be rectified by re pressuring the system) but recently the warning light (and lack of hot water) has come on without a significant drop in pressure. There are no obvious leaks in he pipework, however, the is a build-up of residue around the water pipe next to one the the isolation valves.

Any expert ideas re: what is causing this would be appreciated - diverter, diaphragm being the tow I have arrived at from similar posts...

It might be useful if you could share the exact model number. Otherwise it's a bit like saying I've acquired a Ford and theres a warning light on. :D

The DHW side doesn't rely on the pressure shown on the gauge. Its the CH side that's pressurised and sealed. DHW supply is straight through from mains cold. However if the pressure on the CH side is low the boiler won't fire anyway,

The fact that the pressure is dropping implies that you may have more than one problem but the model number is where it all starts from.

    Cheers
