Huawei G7220 SIM Free-doesn't accept nor do 3 mobile network!

I have bought one of these phones from Argos over lunchtime and have found to my horror that it doesn't accept 3 mobile network! I have gone into the network list and it only accepts o2/EE/Vodafone/T-Mobile/Orange and Virgin networks! These other networks are capable of 3G reception as is the refused 3 network SIM that it won't accept. Why do some simfree phones refuse certain networks? If I was making sim-free mobile phones, I would make damned sure they would work with everybody's mobile network irrespective of what it is.

Take it back and ask for a refund, then switch to a phone that will work on 3.
It's a cheap chinese phone, so don't expect it to work on everything.
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

I think you'll find it's a limitation of the phone ... it's only capable of 2G not 3G, so putting a 3G SIM in from any network won't work.

The Argos description does state this ...

    "Network and connectivity:
    • 2G network capability.
    • Standard SIM card.
    • Wi-Fi connectivity.
    • Bluetooth. "

But it accepts the other networks i've mentioned and if you go into the Argos questions and answers section for that phone there are one or two questions about what networks it will accept;o2 is mentioned there and vodafone is mentioned there.;)

All those other operators (O2, Voda, EE etc.) operate BOTH 2G and 3G networks, with the phone switching between them as necessary.

3 ONLY run a 3G network, they only used to let you use a "partner" 2G network where they had poor 3G coverage - but not anymore (about 2 years).

That phone only has 2G so won't work on the 3 network. It will work on the others but ONLY on 2G. Says so clearly on the Argos info.

    Simple enough for you?

If you doubt what you've been advised, place your '3' 3G SIM in another unlocked or ''3' 3G handset. It will work fine.
You can't use a 2G handset on 3, because they don't have a 2G network: end of story.
It's not Argos' fault ,as they do not say it can be used on 3. The phone is still SIM-free in that it's not locked to any particular network. That does not mean it will work on every network.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
