Is your microwave one of those combination ones? Can you cook joints etc in it, and it browns?

I always think it's a waste putting on the oven for something small, and only have an 'ordinary' microwave.

A blast from the past My dad installed one of those in our first house when we moved up here and then spotted a second hand one in the paper and bought it for our new house, exact same colour as well. That bottom warming oven has many uses, when I went to school my dad used to put my footwear in there to warm through on winter mornings

But we had to get rid when he nearly chopped his foot of with a chainsaw and now we have some poxy expensive oil fired one

The 1st year he had only just been posted out literally at the start of December so he was completely out of his element but the chap he was on duty with took him back home and he had a proper family Christmas with his 2 kids boucing off the walls.
At least he has been able to call us on Christmas morning so at least its better than nothing. Where he is stationed now has good wi fi so he has skyped us twice already so at least we should be able to se him.

I lost my dad 2 weeks ago. He was in a care home and he really didn't bother much with Christmas even when he was in his own home. Even so its going to be a hurdle to cross.

On the bright side I will have youngest son and daughter home so I have to make it a very sophisticated grown up Christmas for them. I think youngest son will almost always be home for Christmas but daughter will be making her own nest sometime in the next 5 years - I think guilt makes her come home now :rotfl:

It must be harder when he has children and is serving the country. My lad is just enjoying his youth to the max. working his way around the world. I don't think he will ever come back to live in the UK, he didn't come back for my dad's funeral as it was too short notice, the other oldies are getting very old, it would be lovely for them to see him but I don't think it will happen.

Just had my TCB Domino's. It was awful but hey, it was dirt cheap so can't really complain!
