New cheap to buy and run printer, which one?

HI

my old printer a HP has died, so i need to replace it.

Need it for normal home use, printing the odd letter, web page and maybe odd photo.

I have children who like to hit the print button and they will do so in years to come-homework.

I have looked at some reviews and the Canon Pixma I1800 comes out well at around £30- but ink seems to be £18 or so. My HP was around £10,,,, but might the canon ones last longer?
Or can I save money refilling? but what about print heads?

Thanks

    Hi Crockpot
I dont know if it is quite what you want but pcworld have the Epson DX4050 on special offer at the moment, its £39.99 and is a printer, scanner copier in one. Its a nice little machine, my friend got one a few weeks ago and he is using compatible cartridges from ukdvdr with it, think they were around £12.50 delivered. hope that helps

Edited to add: it says free standard delivery for the printer too

quite seriously its getting to the stage now where if you can find a printer on special offer (say ~£15-20) its worth buying about 10 of them and just throwing it away when you run out of ink and use a new one since they all come with full tanks of black and colour

    something like

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lexmark-Z735-Easy-Colour-Printer/dp/B000A3H4VK/ref=sr_1_79/202-3987801-7613425?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1181896809&sr=1-79

    or

    http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/117296

would be about right. (Green money savers might not approve of this method - however you can recycle old printers?)

Also maybe consider a colour laser printer - they are coming down in price all the time and are quite economical to run as the toners last for ever and you get good quality quick printing
