Someone reported my card as stolen. Not me!

Quite possibly human error. Any chance you've had contact with the Halifax recently? Say for example the advisor doesn't close down all Windows and applications before moving onto the next customer. New customer comes in, asks to cancel their card and bobs your uncle, they're in your file and ordering a new card0

It's a bit like online banking where some sites will suspend your account after three failed login attempts.
I used to have an account with Tesco and ended up doing just that. However, when I went through the recover username/password process, it turned out my username wasn't the one I'd tried. I blocked someone else's account!
Well, I once cancelled somebody's flights by mistake as they somehow decided to type my email address. I realised a minute later that it wasn't actually a fradulent booking using my details, but too bad for whoever that was.0 -
I had an issue with Halifax earlier in the year. Somehow, someone had changed my address online and then phoned to stop my card and have a new one sent to their address. Apparently they then had to phone up the Halifax phone banking to enact the change. Only found out about it when I got a text from Halifax thanking me for using the phone service! Immediately phoned them and cancelled the new card and then had to go into the bank to change all of my own details back. It has made me very wary of Halifax as I have absolutely no idea how they managed to change my details in the first place.0
