cleaning mould off carpet?

not sure where this thread should go..!

clearing out a relative house, we found some remains (not the relative!)
of what might have been a pizza.

it has all furred over, with mould stain left behind.. any ideas how to clear this up?

would be a shame to bin an otherwise nice looking (bit fairly old) carpet..

It depends a lot on what the carpet is made of. But for mould, a good general approach is ordinary biological washing powder, mixed to a thin paste with tepid water, scrubbed in, left for a few minutes then rinsed out. If it's something like a pure wool carpet then you need to be a bit more careful.

The problem with carpets is you are then often left with a patch that's cleaner than the rest of the carpet, so it stands out. May well be worth hiring a carpet cleaner for half a day and doing the whole thing, if the carpet itself is OK.
  • ol ld carpet, type known- it will be replaced at some point anyway, but the mark is quite obvious and hard to cover up!
