Got a job - what to do in terms of benefits

I'm claiming HB/JSA and am on the Work Programme. As I won't get my wage for a month I will need to continue receiving benefits until I start getting paid. What do I do?

My advisor told me a while back about a bonus/return to work benefit but not sure this still applies. I'll ask when I can but if anyone knows then it's worth asking here too.

Thanks in advance.

You are only eligible for Jsa until you start work.

You mean they don't give you any financial aid whatsoever and will instantly stop your benefits leaving you without payment for an entire month because you got a job? I asked because I've heard that they'll pay you up to your first wage but wanted to get everything made clear. It only makes sense to support those who have been looking for work for a few extra weeks until they get their first wage. I've got a job now and won't need them anymore, but for a couple of weeks I need money.

I have read on here of people asking for an advance in wages, as im sure your employer knows you were in reciept of JSA prior to getting this job and would hopefully oblige. Good luck anyway with your job.

As you are no longer job-seeking then you will not be able to claim JSA. You will have to sign off as soon as you start work and will get money due up until that date.

You will need to contact HB as you may still be entitled to that depending on your income.

  • If youve been unemployed for more than 26 weeks you can apply for a 4 week run on of benefits but you have to apply for it if it's less than 26 weeks you can't get it .
