Can anyone help with this please.
I have a 18 month old currys essentials washing machine C51owm11.
Yesterday it would not turn on to start a cycle. lights flashing and bleeping but nothing else. Called local repair man who has checked it out and says its the main pcb board thats gone.
Its out of warrenty.
Is it worth getting a new pcb board and getting it fitted? is it that straight forward?
cant really afford another washer at moment. Any ideas?

Write a letter to Currys quoting the Sale of Goods Act. An appliance like a washing machine should be expected to last longer than 18 months. If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!

Thanks, I have rang them today but was told by a manager that its 12 months warrenty has ran out so basicly its not their problem. was quite disgusted with their customer service to be honest.0

The washing machine should be expected to last longer - subject to how much use it has had.
Have a read of this webpage:
http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/england/consumer_e/consumer_common_problems_with_products_e/faulty_goods_e/what_is_meant_by_not_of_satisfactory_quality.htm
If you call the consumer advice line or visit your local CAB, they will advise on how to word a letter.
You might also be able to claim on home insurance.
Not sure who makes the Currys washing machines - could be a re-badged Arçelik or Vestel product from Turkey. Check the label - usually inside the door.

I had an air con unit, from Homebase, which failed almost two years from purchase, but had been hardly used , as the hot weather disappeared just after I bought it.
I complained and was told it was out of warranty (12 months), so insisted on discussing expectations with the manager. Following a phone call, this resulted in a full refund, as they couldn't replace the product.0 -
Thanks, I did speak to a manager on the phone, he said 12months is industry standard, it was not a expensive machine but should last longer than this surely.0

The advice you were given in the first reply on this thread was write a letter.Hardupandfedup wrote: »Well I have emailed currys and have quoted the sale of good act etc. Will wait and see if i get a reply.
Why did you send an email?
In my experience companies take far more notice of a letter.
It is far too easy to send an email, but writing a letter shows that you are prepared to put a bit of effort in to get what you want.
For a sample letter, you could perhaps make use of the template in MSE's How to Complain article.0 -
Can you even obtain a new PCB for a badged up own brand machine? Try QER for a PCB repair, I've used them in the past and prices are reasonable.

You'll get nowhere with a SOGA claim against DSG unless you are prepared to pay out for an engineer's report up front, since it's more than 6 months old. You need to prove that the fault was pre-existing, which is not easy. They have to prove nothing.
Next time buy a decent w/m (budget Bosch) from a proper retailer. No free lunch, and no free laptop
