Caves at Zoniana are good.
Rethymon in is a lovely place, prefer it to Chania. Venetian harbour and streets.
Worth a trip to the south to see Matala and Agia Galini (same day trip).
Personally, I'd hire a car for atleast 5 days, plenty to do.
Heraklion not worth visiting. Agreed with another poster that Knossos is disappointing, would also rather see it as it should be now, not artificially restored.0 -
We stayed in Rethymnon - lovely little village. Took the bus to Knossos - glad I've been, buut not that amazing.
If you're into walking, take a day to walk Samaria Gorge. It's a beautiful walk through some amazing landscapes.
The bus drops you at the top of the gorge and you walk down to the seashore. Took OH and I around 5 hours strolling, so take lots of water and some lunch and nibbles. Spend a couple of hours on the beach resting your legs and swimming, then get the ferry back to the bus stop. There is no other way out, so don't miss the last ferry like we nearly did!Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?
