Bank taken too much, help with DD guarantee

'reasonableness' as you put it is dictated by the banks. Taking someone's last £300 quid when you shouldn't have done, and then refusing to give it back until you decide is not okay.
'Reasonable' in the legal sense isn't a defined term but is a subjective one applied to the particular situation
In the very small sample of this thread so far most people deem the 10ish days as reasonable time to put the problem right, therefore it is probably reasonable
No bank or politician has decided to keep hold of the money, a process needs to be followed, simple asAlso it's easy for you to say 'what's the problem' in the scheme of things - how do you know the OP doesn't do their DD's on the 5th of every month and now they're stuffed with getting bills or rent paid? How do you know it's not put them over an unauthorised overdraft? How do you know it's not the difference between feeding the kids and not this week? But even so, if any of those are the case, it's fine because parliament (funded by banks) say it's fine? It's fine because it's less than 30 days? Please.
The same banks and politicians you disparage so openly established a system that allows people to claim redress for these situations. If the OP has lost out (and no evidence of that so far) then they would be entitled to compensation for that loss along with their time
Your increasingly erratic posts remind me of my first year at Uni (where i studied Economics) and students were introduced to Marx/Lenin for the first time. Most people (and countries) grow out of these ideals eventually but a few took a turn to the left and kept on going0 -
Someone has to stand up for the little person against people like those who've responded in here - OP has been basically told to man up and one person even made out like them not having loads of money saved up (without knowing their financial situation) for a rainy day was the reason this has happened. Totally out of order, but then this is a forum, these people wouldn't say that to someone who complained about this to them face to face because that's also how the world works, and they'd have no friends at all if they did that.
Maybe you should try actually helping the OP rather than patronising them! 'Little person' is the most demeaning term in this thread so far
Get down from the left leaning soap box and offer some practical help
My advice to the OP (if they are still around which seems unlikely given the direction this thread has taken)
Consider carefully the cost of reversing the payment you made via the DD guarantee - someone has already pointed out the implications this could have
Work out how to manage without the £358 for 10 days, consider putting regular expenses onto a credit card or even withdrawing cash from a cc to help manage or look at a temp overdraft if money is really short
Complain formally and in writing to the bank and have an idea of what sort of redress you are seeking, id suggest £25-£50 would be reasonable for the distress caused, more if you have incurred any charges etc etc0 -
Deary me. Very little hope for most of you.0
