Compensation claim - update enquiry from DWP

Dear members

I had an accident in 2010 and I also claimed for the injury. I did not claim any benefits from the Government.

Today after nearly 3 years I was surprised to receive a letter from DWP titled as follows. The claim was settled in 2011 and i was paid in one payment. Did somebody received a letter like this? What should I do?

Compensation claim - update enquiry

When a claim for compensation is made, the person whom you are claiming (the compensator) must register the claim with the Compensation Recovery Unit. CRU is responsible for checking whether social security benefits/lump sum payment(s) have been paid as a direct consequence of the incident or disease for which you are seeking compensation.

If you have claimed benefits/lump sum as a consequence of the incident or disease CRU will recover the equivalent amount of benefit(s)/lump sum from the Compensator. Please note your compensation may be reduced to offset the amount of benefit(s)/lump sum paid in certain cases.

As we were notified some time ago of this compensation claim could you please advise us of the current position.

there are series of options below and i think the one apply to me is as follows

A compensation payment in final discharge of the claim was paid on ..-..-....
(Please note that this should be the date when the cheque was issued in final discharge of the claim.)

Also i dont know the date when the cheque was issued. What should i do.Please help this is making me nervous and stressing me out.

Thanks

  • Did you have solicitors represent you on the claim?

If so, they will have received the same form. So just let them respond on your behalf.

    Hi Bert

Thanks for your reply. Yes I also had legal cover and my insurance company's legal team did everything. Do I need to contact them or just not do anything and they will do it for me?

    Thanks

    Any more ideas people?
  • Your solicitors should respond as they will have received the same form from the DWP.

It would do no harm to speak with the solicitors though to check they are going to respond
