Wireless ADSL/Router question

Hi,

I am about to move house and have a wireless ADSL modem that I've been using with our BroadBand, we are about to move to a cable area and will probably be getting Virgin Media.

Can i connect the ADSL wireless unit to my new cable modem to get wireless BB on cable or am i going to have to buy a new router altogether?

not sure about this, but I think you do need a different thing altogether, as cable and adsl are two different thing's although they are both broadband, you should be able to get something free off virgin media if your signing up with them.
    hope this help's cw.:D

Only if your wireless ADSL modem router has an Ethernet WAN port (which connects to the cable modem). Most don't because they have an RJ11 (phone) socket instead to provide the WAN link. You'll probably need a wireless cable/DSL router.

Thanks, i'll check it out. Kind of figured a new one might be compulsory
  • Hi
I have recently done the same thing and had to change my ADSL router to a DSL.
If you ADSL router does not have a built in ADSL modem you will be o.k. However if it does you will need a DSL router. However I have had some big problems connecting my Virgin to a DSL router and still cannot get it working.
Be aware Virgin do not support anything to do with the routers.

What are the problems you encountered? Have you set the router up correctly? Is the encryption enabled, and if so is the encryption key entered on the computer?
