Freelance French Tutor

Hello, I have just started my own business... I am now a freelance French tutor.
At the moment I am only giving private French tuition.
I am charging £20 per hour.
I want to soon start teaching French in Nursery/ Pre-school and in Business centre.
Anyone could help me and tell me how much I could charge for it?
Thanks
Sandra

Can't help myself but reply to this one but I have to declare an interest:
I run two tuition firms - Bright Tutors and First Tutors, the former is a tuition agency of freelancers, the latter a website where tutors advertise their own services. The latter is basically a good way to figure out 'the going rate' in your area because everyone lists their prices upfront according to their experience. As to nurseries, schools, etc, we deal with those through the other service and they will typically already have a precise budget in mind (to the nearest pound per hour) and so it is more a case of whether or not you are happy with what they are offering than what you should charge. They also sometimes prefer to employ tutors than use freelancers, though not exclusively by any means.
Also worth reading is The Good Schools Guide 2007 - that gives you an idea of what the agencies are charging parents and paying tutors across the country.
Hope this helps.0 -
I would imagine that schools and nurseries would prefer to either employ you direct OR employ you through an agency because of the need to ensure you have a recent CRB check. As these aren't portable, even if you can get one carried out yourself the school may not find it adequate.
If you read the recent discussion about face panting (typo, I know, but that's how you'll find it if you have to search) someone suggests that if you set yourself up as a company and employ yourself you can get a CRB check carried out.
Note that on that thread I was saying a CRB check was OTT, but this is a different situation where you could well be left alone with children, so best practice says you'd need one.Signature removed for peace of mind0
