Simply Games PS4 Rip off...

I preordered a PS4 base unit with Simplygames.com.
The preorder was guaranteed for launch at £349.99. It consisted of only the hardware, no games or accessories.
I have had a email today saying that the 'bundle' I preordered is no longer available and I must choose another, with the cheapest one available coming in at £414.99 with a extra pad and charging cable!
"Thanks for bearing with us with whilst we finalised stock configurations with Sony. We have now completed this process and as mentioned last week the pack configurations that we will actually be receiving DO differ slightly from the selection you originally made."
I am livid.
I either tell them no, and lose my launch day system, or pay for something I don't want!
Any advice?

They're well within their rights to refuse an order, ultimately they can refuse to honour it due to the fact in the small print they would likely have said "stock subject to availability". It's highly likely that Sony will not be allowing solo console sales, same as Microsoft, that's the way it has worked in the past & no doubt will work in the future.
Think of it like this, you're essentially looking to buy a Ferrari but no diesel to run the thing, I know the digital argument exists but well, you're not going to want to pay day 1 digital prices.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -
Granted, that it a fair point, but i can get the games cheaper elsewhere. Also if it was just a game added to the bundle I would be ok with that, its the fact that it is making me buy an extra pad when one isn't needed yet.0

You deserve to pay more for being a launch day buyer.0

It not like your forced to get 1 for launch day. Your current console will still work.
I do understand the issue as id be a bit !!!!ed off as well.0 -
If you can't accommodate Sony's £70 upfront bundling surcharge there is little point buying the console. How will you be able to pay for games to play? Additional controllers?0

No advise other than pay for the console or change your option to a bundle that includes a game with it so you dont have too shop elsewhere for a gameNo One I Think Is In My Tree.:cool:0

I'm in the same boat. The original price was £343.99 now the minimum price is £414.99 (extra controller and cable).
So they want 71 quid more, for an extra controller (worth £50) meaning that's a £21 cable I really don't want. The game bundles are an extra £55 on top of that.
Some of this will be pressure no doubt from Sony to bundle up. But I don't like there bundles. Also giving you the option to add more which are guaranteed. Makes me think there will be a surplus, or they are expecting lots of cancellations.
I've decided to take the risk and place another pre-order elsewhere. Might mean I'm less likely to get it on day 1, but so be it. Check your favorite online retailers, excluding Amazon that will be swamped.
Simply Games wants to know what's what by "SUNDAY OCTOBER 13". So I'll probably cancel them a few days before that. Possibly if you ignore it, it will auto cancel... but I'm not taking the risk.0 -
It is not right that they do this, I'm unsure what to do to, have a preorder for assassins PS4 with simplygame at £49.95 so if forced to go with one of these bundles have to cancel that & pay more for the game from them!!
Plus the fact they want to charge £5.95 for delivery on top!
The point is yes you may want a controller at a later date but not forced on you with the initial costs of the PS4 & just because you want it for launch date doesnt mean you should be ripped of.
Game are honouring their preorders of just consoles so whats the problem with simplygame0 -
There is no confirmed pricing structure for next generation games - so far what we're seeing is approximations of what they're going to cost, there is no concrete fact. So I wouldn't bank too much on "I can get the game/controller cheaper elsewhere" as yet.
Just relax safe in the knowledge that even at £415 you're still cheaper than Xbox One who have still to find out what their bundles will be launching at. Granted they'll have (provided a Day One console) a freebie game, but I'm thinking their bundles WILL start at around £510-530.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -

These days additional controllers are pretty obsolete, the vast majority of MP of online. I've got 4 controllers for the 360, I can only think or 2 instances in the last 6 years I've used more than 1 at a time, since I very very rarely play sports games.0
