Hi all
We live very rurally so my kids are not used to city centres - INSET day monday so was thinking of booking a cheap hotel in Nottingham city centre and exploring the city on Sunday / Monday.
I don;t know Nottingham at all so what is there to do?
I will not have a car so need things to be easy to walk to / bus.
Nottingham Castle ? what is it like? any museums that would interest kids ?
We will go the cinema if i can find an evening screening of a kids film but wanted ideas for the sunday daytime and monday...
I have not been to Nottingham for 20 years and then i used to spend all night clubbing so can't really say i saw much of the city:eek:
Just googled and found this http://www.galleriesofjustice.org.uk/
and the cave tours - seems there is a lot to see - but maybe worth coming along at half term / Halloween week

The Robin Hood Experience is fun

Theres plenty of historical stuff around the castle - plenty of stuff about Robin Hood etc, one thing I would say is the south side of the city is a total mess due to tram works so watch out for that. If you want cinema, theres one right in the city centre in the Cornerhouse which also has lots of places to eat around it.
Theres usually something going on in the Old Market Square although it was a bit quiet when I was there the other day;
Ahhh I cant believe I forgot Goose Fair!!! Theres a big funfair on the Forest Rec Ground that finishes Sunday. Get on any tram, and the Forest tram stop is about 4 stops out of town. The fair is on from 1pm-9pm Sunday and theres plenty to amuse the kids there. I've never been to the caves or Galleries but I hear they're really good.

thanks
booked a cheap hotel in the centre which will be an experience for my kids since we live in the middle of nowhere, might forget the cinema as there is so much else to do..
caves, castle, galleries of justice, pencilled in for now
I have found lots of restaurant chain vouchers so we can go out to eat on an evening- probably a pizza at Prezzo (we have none of these chain restaurants near by so again this will be a first for the kids)
Can someone tell me where the south side of the city is where the tram work is? We are staying near Maid Marion Way so is that South? and we will be waking in to the centre from the station..

If you're by Maid Marion Way you will be fine. The area around the station and the station itself is a bit of a mess with roadworks but if you're on foot you should be fine. However the road down the side of the station is busier than usual as all the buses are diverted down there at the moment so I would advise extra care when crossing. It's a bit of a walk to Maid Marian Way but MM way is a main road so not hard to find. Hope you enjoy your visit
I don't live in Notts any more, I live out in rural Leicestershire but I spend a lot of time in Nottingham shopping and watching my team Nottingham Rugby so I usually know what's going on

There's also Brewhouse yard museum as well as the castle, if your children like caves then look at Mortimers hole which goes down into the rock below the castle.
