Lino , Asbestos ?

Morning
We moved into our new house on Tuesday , discovered that the previous owners had not fitted their dishwasher properly , we had a plumber out to terminate the cold feed properly , and had to remove a sopping wet lino and underlay from the floor , and found this underneath , though it is almost hard plastic like (which ironically has stopped the water ingressing over the months to the joists?) i am aware that as its probably original , and the house was built in 1976 , that it probably contains some form of asbestos
Any advise welcome!

Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

Unlikely to be asbestos content in that pattern tile, usually the asbestos ones are plain or marbled effect.
it does not matter too much anyway as the small percentage of asbestos is fixed into the thermoplastic tile, provided you don't plan to grind them down and breathe in the dust they are quite safe.
Gerfloor who manufactured a lot of these recommend: damp down the floor, strip up using a sharp blade scraper, double bag and dispose of.
wearing a dust mask is always recommended when lifting flooring.
I don't believe that they need to be taken to a registered asbestos site but that may vary with your local council regs.0 -
I have some similar tiles in my kitchen and have been advised they do contain asbestos. They're certainly a place to suspect, but you'll have to have them tested to know the true answer.
If your house was built in the 1970s, I think it's worth having someone assess the building properly for asbestos to know what's there. Our house turned up quite a bit, but as fortunately many domestic asbestos materials are pretty solid and don't release particles in to the air, like our vinyl tiles, it's not an immediate worry. The main thing is that we know what materials and items we shouldn't disturb when we do some DIY or have people in to do things. If we have to remove or break these things, we'll get help before doing anything.0 -
cheers both
plan to have the kitchen ripped out and replaced , the tiles wont be grinded or sanded etc
As for other asbestos items , well its likley the flue in the loft for the old warm air contains it , but we wont be touching that in our lifetime , have gas central heating now anyway
The ceilings are artexed , where its little dimples , not sure of the expression , they are in decent condition and will be having them painted as cant afford them to be skimmed , so they shouldnt cause an isssue , if there even is any asbestos in thoseNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0
