Do the sums - work out how much it will cost for the three months at a higher rate as opposed to say a 10% or so price hike on the cheapest deal at the moment. I've noticed that some of the fixed deals are creeping up a bit or being dropped in favour of a revised deal with a new name and slightly higher prices (eg Scottish Power had a Nov 2014 fix, it's now Dec 2014 fix).
It's a gamble - the cheapest I can find with my usage and location is with First Utility Fix v9 April 2015 which is cheaper than SP and lasts for an extra four months but its only seemed to appear last weekNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
I'm NOT with Scottish Power but I've just had a call from them offering me their fixed until January 2017 deal. They have also told me they don't penalise their customers if they want to switch onto other deals within the same company so maybe it's worth you giving them a call about it - it's their "Help Beat Cancer Fixed Price January 2017" tariff.0

It's too late to switch to the M&S deal, which closed 30th September 2013. I decided to ride the Scottish Power January 2014 fix all the way to the end. Pray for a mild January and February.0
