My Builder has filed for bankruptcy

Options
Our builder has told us that they are filing for bankruptcy so they cannot complete the out standing work.

I want to now how I can confirm that he has indeed filed for bankruptcy? I have a feeling that he is just saying that so we do not hassle him about the poor and unfinished job he left our kitchen in.

Thankyou

If he has filed for bankruptcy himself - it will shortly by advertised on the London Gazette website. You can also search for bankruptcies on https://www.gov.uk/search-bankruptcy-insolvency-register (I think it gets updated pretty much as soon as the court notifies the Official Receiver). If someone else has filed for his bankruptcy the bankruptcy petition will be searchable on the London Gazette website but there is a delay before the actual hearing (4 weeks +) and the order is not always made. If he trades as a limited company things will be different as it will be a liquidation or administration but companies house is your friend then and that will display details of the liquidator when appointed - but there is a delay in this being updated. You could also phone the Insolvency Helpline - I believe they will be able to search for his or the company details - 0845 602 9848

oops - forgot to add if he is filing for banruptcy himself - he may have all the forms but will have to wait for a court date - court date waiting times vary from court to court but I have known them to be 8 weeks plus.

Well notice of the meetings of the company's Members and Creditors will appear in the London Gazette.

Ask him who has been appointed to liquidate the company and phone them.

    How did you pay?
