    Hope this helps.
Yep - just about enough to frighten the living daylights out of the OP. ;)

    Cheers

  • HI all,

Thanks for the advice, I have a Baxi WM38 3RS boiler, I am complete dunce when it comes to anything like this.

I thought I did have someone I could ask but having had him fit my new rad's and made a mess of it and completely mess me around I don't feel I can trust him to give me sound advice!

I have signed up with BG for the boiler cover including an boiler service, I think I will get them out to do the service and then see what they say when the hear the clunking etc

Could it possibly be the pressure? But on the Baxi boiler I cannot see anywhere where there is a pressure gauge.

Sorry guys but I need a complete idiot guides here

Get ready for BG to tell you your boilers knackered and you need to upgrade it

If the fitter made a mess of installing 2 rads, he might have not vented the system correctly

No you don't unless you want lots of different people all with different opinions to confuse the hell out of you and frighten you to death. You need an RGI you can trust (talk to your parents or ffriends) to go though the whole thing for you.

That boiler is a conventional non-condensing boiler. No pressure guage because it isn't a pressurised system.

Please - just get someone in.

    Cheers

  • Thanks for help everyone.

Keystone - I am going to get BG in to give it it's annual service and see what they say, I am prepared for them to say it's knackered but it was tested in May this year and passed but was not serviced.

I has a separate water heater, which since the new rad's have been installed we have no hot water! It is a Chaffteux Convec Britony II A water heater which when googled I believe could be the diaphragm - hope so.

I can't afford to replace the boiler or water system having only been in the property a couple of months so hoping that we can patch it for 12-18 months whilst I save up.

I do have a person I can trust (I think/hope) and will ask him to come round and see what he says, shoudl of got him to the rad's!

I am hoping that maybe a chemical flush will work, the guy who did the rad's says he would do it for £60 plus about £30 for the chemical but I have found the chemical for £18 so straight away I know he's ripping me off!!

All in all a bit of bad luck with water and heating with this new house :( At least with rented it's someone else problem!

Plumb1, all he did when he installed the rad's was freeze the pipes put some new ones on the end and installed the rad's and then bled them.

Not sure what you mean by venting?

Removing air from the radiators and any other points where a system vent has been installed. This may need to be done a few times after changing/adding radiators.

You will need a T-shaped radiator key. There are plenty of videos on YouTube showing how to do it.

If he says that - get a second opinion

Blimey - that is Noahs Ark stuff - must be 30 years old if its a day. Yes a replacement diaphragm can squeeze a few more years life out of it but its a gas appliance so needs an RGI to work on it

    Should be possible,

Probably right esp. if the other guy didn't get the air out when he did it.
I am hoping that maybe a chemical flush will work, the guy who did the rad's says he would do it for £60 plus about £30 for the chemical but I have found the chemical for £18 so straight away I know he's ripping me off!!
Well to be fair to him its not just the x400 he needs. He'll also need some X100 inhibitor to put in and leave in for corrosion protection after he's cleaned the system. Thats another £ 18 for a litre at retail so unless he's got some in the back of the van already then he's making a loss on £ 30 for the chemicals. So perhaps don't be too quick to judge him. £ 60 to do the job seems remarkably thin as well. Altogether I'm getting nervous about him but for quite different reasons to yours.
All in all a bit of bad luck with water and heating with this new house :( At least with rented it's someone else problem!
Yes but at least its your house which can only go up in value eventually. renting is just money in someone elses pocket every month and nothing left at the end when you move out.

    Best of luck with it.
