Having never travelled with a young child, I often wonder what people do in the evenings. Do you just sit in the hotel room? Doesn't sound like much of a holiday.

    Depends on their age.

Under 2 yrs old, you can often get them to fall asleep in the pram, so pretty portable.

Over 2 yrs old, you adapt their sleep patterns using naps so they stay awake later without too many strops.

And for us, holidays pre kids were never about going out lots in the night time, so we always used to be in bed pretty early anyway - which was/is always part of the holiday :D:D:D:D:D

Obviously as we packed lots of visits and sightseeing into the daytime... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Well that sort of depends what one's view is on leaving them 'home alone' whilst the parents enjoy wine and nibbles at the pool bar.
It used to be the done thing in parts of Portugal, I understand.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

As others have since commented, we did loads of stuff in the day and encouraged him to have an afternoon nap so he would then stay awake later in the evening.
