Eyeliner won't stay put

Can anyone recommend an eyeliner that stays put. I am currently using Avon glimmersticks which looks good and is easy to use with the twist up pencil (I don't like sharpening pencils) but not long after putting it on it ends up smudging and disappearing. I used to use liquid eyeliner but now I have turned 50 I feel it will look harsh on me. Can anyone suggest a good eyeliner that will stay put without looking over the top.

Okay, do you use a eye primer?
Its a base product that helps eye shadow stay put. Usually a skin tone shade. They can help, or eye shadow powder before lining can help. Oh and it can take about a minute for the eyeliner to set so if you are doing something before that it might be smudging the eyeliner?
Since you want twist up, Smashbox(available at large Boots or online from Smashbox.co.uk), they have a new waterproof twist up one.
Personally Urban Decay 24/7 is brilliant but its a normal pencil. Rimmel do one which is cheaper but again its a normal pencil.0 -
I find gel eyeliner stays on longer I recommend the Maybelline Eye Studio one its just as good as the high end ones like Bobbi Brown and MAC.
You can smudge it with the brush you get with it or a cottonbud.
One tip for all eyeliners is to go over the liner with a matt eyeshadow thats the same colour. MUA at superdrug do a matt black shadow for £1 or a Matt Brown. This will stop your liner from smudging and gives a softer look.
My mum uses Mally (can be found on QVC as its an elite USA company) and it has a twist up eyeliner and waterproof and stays put all day. Or as above poster said Smashbox are brilliant as well.
If you like ordering from Avon the Supershock range is much better than the glimmersticks and the gel eyeliner meant to stay put all day. Its had some really good reviews by bloggers and youtube gurus. A Model Recommends and Pixiwoo both rate it highly and use it often.0 -
Another vote for Avon Supershock gel liner pencil.
Other ones that have great staying power are Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner pencil (they do lots of dark brown and slate type colours which might help with the harshness?) . They also have 2 blacks, Zero and one called 'Perversion' - avoid the latter if you don't want harsh - this thing is blacker than black.
The Stila twist up eye pencils are also very good.
Gel liner really is the way forward if you want it to stay all day - the Maybelline Eye Studio one is excellent and it comes in brown as well as black (and maybe like purple etc) - I used to be a MAC fluidline devotee and even I'm converted.
The major thing with gel eyeliner is a decent brush, the one it comes with is ok but I'd get something thinner if you were thinking more natural.0 -
Avon Supershock is my only eyeliner. I've tried umpteen others but always come back to this. It's waterproof, long lasting and inexpensive. I use the black, which is very black, and as it's a gel pencil you can smudge it if that's what you like. Once it's "set" it won't shift.0

Thanks for your replies. Does the Avon supershock eyeliner need sharpening?
Is gel better than liquid do you think?0 -
Why not use a darker or brighter eyeshadow with an eye liner brush?Same effect (but you can make it look subtler or stronger),easy to do,any colour you want, doesn't smudge and,if you use a good shadow,it lasts well.
Edited to add:I've been doing this for years.A few years back I'd have neutral shadow then line with green or purple shadow, nights out I used to line with teal mac pigment with my liner brush wet and now I line with a brown shadow.Means you can get closer to the lashes too and don't run the risk ok patchy or wonky line if your hand gets unsteadyIf women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
