Holiday gift vouchers - a good idea?

Not sure if this is the right forum but I'm looking for some recommendations for holiday gift vouchers.

My mum died a little while ago and once the estate is all sorted I would like to give a thank you gift to her neighbours who were wonderful to her especially in the last 2 years since my dad died. I know they won't accept money so I was thinking I could give them some holiday vouchers they could use to treat themselves - they are such caring, selfless people.

I'd like them to be as flexible as possible to give them the maximum options. They are not young (late 60s) but fairly fit and active but I'd like them to be able to choose something they feel comfortable with rather than having to have a certain kind of holiday.

If anyone has any recommendations - or warnings - I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much

Thomas Cooks are about the best known issuer of vouchers, you can buy any amount you want and they can choose the type of holiday they would like to book. What a kind and generous thought on your part and how good to hear that there are still good neighbours around.

What a smashing thought, I'm sure they'll appreciate your kindness
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

As it happens I've just being given some leisure vouchers which have quite a few travel options, though mostly UK. See http://www.leisurevouchers.co.uk/ Click on the "how to enjoy" link at the bottom for where they can spend them. They would also give them the option of meals out and other stuff if they didn't want to use them for a holiday.
  • Thank you - I will explore those 2 options that have been suggested. I agree with you about good neighbours - I lived a couple of hours from my mum and, working full time, could only get to see her once a week. It was a weight off my mind knowing they were popping in, getting her shopping and asking her round for dinner. They used to ring her first thing every morning after my dad died just to check she was awake and up and about.

Ryanair gift vouchers. Always useful for holidays, or visiting friends, or whatever.
