Usually where you leave your comment it asks for your name & email address to be able to post the comment, so they will have it without leaving it in the actual comment

Thank you for that. It is very useful. I did enter your competition, because I recall reading on it about people not understanding about how the tweet works.

There is one thing that I wonder if I do right. This is when posting a comment on blogs. I choose the name /URL option if this is available. I put my name, then for the URL, I put the URL of my twitter profile, because I figure the blogger could contact me that way if I were to win. Do you think that this is ok?

If you have added a comment on another post (not the comp post) then you need to link up that with the entry - for example, put the URL or title name of the post in the RC form - so if you commented on "What I wore today", you'd put that or www .?????.com/ whatiworetoday (or whatever URL)

Ok, you know how interfering I can be? Don't answer that :p

Suggestion, what if we leave this for a day or two so that peeps can respond, ask Jaibaby questions and perhaps, if it's not too cheeky an ask, Jaibaby might end up adding/changing bits in response. Then when it seems finished me or someone else can pm VG.

    Whadyafink?

Fine by me hun - just might take a while to get online - at this moment I have the baby chewing on my finger thanks to teething :( so I have an excuse if I don't answer straight away! :)

Thank You very helpful & agree we need this on velvetgloves thread

:o I will more than likely be one of the people who do not fill out the rafflecopter correctly.

I agree hun - this is why the promoters of the RC comps need to put it in the T&Cs - not always going to happen though - I tend to write in the comment box (if available) "entered by mistake, please delete this entry".

I don't think this is true. They are only mandatory if you want to earn the 'X more entries'.

In the example shown below you can do any one (or more) of the options to get the relevant number of entries. If you just leave a blog comment you get five entries and you can leave it at that. You only have to do all six options to access the extra options.

Not always true hun, which is why I said in the OP - you should always read the T&Cs to see what is mandatory :o:)

I've just got a question come up after viewing a recent rafflecopter which is requiring you to leave your email address as a public comment so they can "contact you" (aka, woot spam bot lovin)

I assumed the person running the Rafflecopter had access to the email address of the account the comper was logged into rafflecopter with?

If you logged in via email, yes - just put that you are not happy leaving your email but it is noted as your login - they can see it, if you have twitter maybe leave your handle too, but up to you. I never leave my email as a comment :)

Great post - especially the name thing! Took a couple of comp entries for me to suddenly think of that!

Don't let the number of entries put you off - at the end of the day, it takes one entry to win. And with some RC comps, there are 100s of entries available for any person, so it doesn't truly reflect the amount of people actually entering

Thanks for the post, some useful information.
While it is true that it only takes one entry to win and one thing is for sure, if you don't enter you cannot win.
But it is the number of entries that matter not the number of different people entering (unless there is more than one prize and you are limited to only one win per person).
If there are 10,000 entries and you have 1, your chances of winning (10,000 to 1) remain the same if there are 100 or 1,000 people who have entered.

Absolutely hun - take a look at the ITV comps - at a guess say 100,000 people entered, at 6 times each - that's 600,000 entries - you have a 1 in 100,000 chance, but that doesn't stop you from entering, it doesn't stop me anyway! Admittedly, it's for a bigger prize, but there is still that chance that your one entry (or one of your entries) could be that lucky winner - that's how I look at each and every comp :) xx

And also, with RC, there is a maximum amount of entries any person can get. But that ranges, depending on how the promoter has spread it out. For example:
5 entries for a comment on the comp post (mandatory)
10 entries for a daily tweet
    1 entry for subscribing
25 entries for a Facebook like

If that comp was running for 7 days and person A entered it from the start and did each option, they would have 101 entries (maximum entries).
Person B started on day 4 and only did the comment - 5 entries.
Person C entered on the last day and did all options - 41 entries.

So when you see that a comp has 25,000+ entries for a pen, you can see why with amounts like 50 entries for a like etc :o

Not everybody does all the options on the RC - but, obviously, the more you do, the more chance you have of winning :D

All I'm trying to say is don't be put off :) xx

Definitely, doesn't matter how many entries there are you only need one to to go from absolutely certain not to win to being in with a chance.

On problem I find with rafflecopters is that you have lo log into some weird programme to comment - I have one linked ot my blog so i'r sunder the name of the blog & I don't know have to set up any open id systems - I have entered ones in the past which asked the name you'd posted under- why don't all rafflecopters do this?

Just some news on the whole email address thing. I've just finished a RC competition and I was able to contact my winners easily because RC automatically filled in their email addresses or usernames for each field. I contacted both winners on Twitter and they responded immediately. If they hadn't then I could have moved on to emails.

I just received a RC win yesterday and the win was emailed to my Facebook email address - it isn't linked to my competition email or my Twitter username.
