Can't log into new hotmail account - MS overprotective message

I set up an email account with Hotmail, but I can't read messages.

I can log in using the email address and password, but then I get a message reading:

Call us overprotective, but we need to verify that is yours

Before you can continue, you need to check your inbox for a message from the Microsoft account team. Follow the instructions in the mail to finish setting up your account.

The problem is, I can't see my inbox!

I've got email confirmation that my account has been verified (they sent me a code to another email address) but I still get the "Call us overprotective..." message once I'm signed in and still no sign on emails.

I can't find a response on the MS technical website. I am totally stumped after three days of trying to work out next steps. Can anyone please help.

Thanks in advance.

Is there not a "skip this step" link?
You can skip it for 7 days.

If not, tweet the @outlook team

So you got the verification question email to the other email address when you set up the hotmail account.
This I think would have required you to confirm.
So did you then click on the relevant hyperlink within the email to confirm that the email address is your and you did indeed set up the hotmail account.

    If so, then I'm stumped

Every now and then from my existing hotmail email account I get asked click a link to send a code number of one of my other email addresses registered with hotmail. This then sends a number which I then enter into the hotmail welcome page before my inbox is allowed.
  • uxb, it's exactly the situation as you write it in the first paragraph of your reply. So I'm stumped still.

I can't skip any part of the steps.

I don't have a twitter account, maybe I best join the 21st century!

I can log into my new Hotmail account, but no in-box is showing. Just profile, account, sign out.

I tried to send an email to the account but got a delivery failure message so it's still no joy!

    Anyone else??

Can't help HH but I have a similar problem. I inadvertently signed up to a Microsoft account which apparently gives me access to Xbox and other silly things on this Windows 8.
As a result I now have, as you mention, another layer of security to get thru, i.e. a code number needed from another e mail. And my password never seems to get recognised first time. Also this long time Hotmail account is playing up, can't open messages unless I click "Forward".
Problem solved however have moved to Gmail.
