mouse thats lost its way

Hi

Probably a simple question - mouse won't move from right-hand side of computer screen - will move up and down but not to the left.
I've cleaned the mouse but no improvement.
Any suggestions please?

Is it a laser (optical) or ball mouse?

I remember with a ball mouse the connecting rollers inside would become engrained with gunk and until you physically opened it up and removed it, it wouldn't work. It used to be well stuck on, so a quick wipe of the ball didn't work.



You can see the "spindles" in black (2) along the ball edge, usually it was encrusted on those.

If it's laser, or ball free, then probably need a new mouse.

Thank you for your replies - I think the proper cleaning has solved the problem. I appreciated the picture to help identification. It is a ball mouse.
