31/7/2013 I rang up nPower to setup a new account, provided readings of 56560 (electricity) & 6221 (gas)

I provided the reading on 31/7/13 when I moved in to the property but they haven't recorded that because the original nPower person I spoke to didn't setup the account correctly and then it took them 20+ days to sort out a proper account. Since then I have been providing readings. Why are there sooo many different changes to the account?

I just wanted the account setup. To pay £70 DD a month and provide a reading every month. Now I have no idea what they are doing.

edit: I thought I was going to get a bill for £52.42 and I was going to pay £70 DD, so I would be in credit and those credits would add up over a few months so I could afford the extra cost when Winter hits. Why have they reversed this payment

But they no longer offer two-tier tariffs. That makes billing simpler. Everyone can now understand their bills. That's what Ofgem says, at least.

Time after time Ofgem were told customers being confused by bills has nothing (significantly) to do with two-tier tariffs. This common knowledge was completely ignored so ministers can spout rubbish.

I don't know why people find bills so hard to understand. All you have to do is be able to read. It's not the weather forecast where you get nice pictures to explain things. If you're old enough to agree an energy contract you should be able to read and understand an energy bill. It's just laziness with most people.

A common theme with today's spoon fed society. Few people can be bothered to read what's in front of them these days, be it T&C's, contracts or bills. What seems to be consistent is that these same individuals seem to reserve the right to blame everyone else for their failings other than themselves.

Our governments and media, indulge these "populist" views (as it wins votes and audiences). Our governments seek to manage this ignorance through tighter regulations of businesses, throttling entrepreneurship. This leads to escalating overheads (someone needs to pay for all the auditors). In turn consumer prices increase, the UK becomes unattractive to international and domestic investment, the jobs market dwindles.

A basic failure to read and absorb information is a common theme which can be witnessed on these forums. Most prominently this can be seen on the consumer rights, mobile phone, insurance and credit card sections.

The world really owe these individuals one, whilst the rest of us suffer for their inadequacies.

The root cause is poor education. Rant over.
