A MiFi Dongle will work, but only for 5 devices.

That means either 2 MiFi Dongles, or get 1, and use your existing Dongle for the 6th Laptop.

Bear in mind, 5 Laptops can easily go through a lot of data allowance, so you might want to bung on a decent topup.

    £25 will get you 7GB, on 3.

You are quite wrong. See my earlier post #8.

In addition you are way off the mark with the likely usage of data.
It is just for data entry on a website.

The 3GB over 3 months standalone data SIM for £14 or so fits the bill, as would an Ovivo Data SIM.
  • I stand corrected. I understood the limit was 5 devices.

I'd still be inclined to put on plenty of data allowance.

How embarrassing would it be, to run out of data, in the middle of the meeting. :o

Having a couple of these 3GB data SIMs on hand will cover that possibility.
  • You would still be running out if data in the middle of the meeting so, alternatively, you could queue a couple of £15 topups.

That would avoid the interruption (while you swap SIMs) and, if you don't start using the second one, it'll remain queued until the first one expires, after 30 days.

I think that you are exaggerating likely data usage. A waste of money topping up. One can monitor likely usage and replace the SIM at the beginning of a session if necessary.

Ok, I need to connect about 6 laptops to the internet on a temporary basis at a meeting (initially a one off but I suspect it maybe something I need to do 4 or 5 times a year)
The venue doesn't have wifi available

I have a 3G dongle which obviously will work for one laptop, so I think I need a mifi but I don't want to pay for a monthly service when I will so rarely need it!
Does anyone know if there any mifi that work on a PAYG basis like my dongle does? (I'd just like to put £5 or so on when I need it, rather than every month etc!) If it could use a giffgaff SIM like i use in my ipad that would be perfect - I just put £5 on when I know I'm going to need the 3G!!

i have a device but i can only connect 5 people at a time, i think you need a new wifi device have a ability to contect more then 5 people at a time.

    Or something like this:
    http://www.pixmania.co.uk/wifi-modem-router/tp-link-tl-mr3220-3g-wireless-n-router-4-port-switch/11109096-a.html

set it up as a wifi hotspot and plug in any 3G dongle and away you go! no messy "users per device" limit and you can do some basic firewalling (so no Facebook updates or Youtube streaming when you should be working!) ^_~
