Hi I currently run a nice little shop on ebay and am looking to now set up a website but am a bit of a novice to say the least. I have found a very un techie hosting site with cart and a designer etc just need to decide on a web site name . Does the name i chose have any influence on the ranking it will get on serch engins? Also should I hyperanate or underscore seperate the name? Ie '' I-Love-Brands-For-Less'' or I_Love_brands_for_less'' or just run it all together ? will that affect my listing at all . and finally is it a stupid name? I sell ex branded goods and ''recyled'' brands
thanks for your time

The name you choose will have no effect on search engines.
They rank by things like keywords, text content and text links.
Your webpage has to built the right way for it to be found by search engines, be careful of hows its designed as some never turn up in searches at all.
The key things to ensure are that the name is easy to remember and is easy to spell/type correctly, a lot of clever sounding names are impossible to get right when just typing in the address.
Think of someone on the phone saying go to 'I-Love-Brands-For-Less' and then try and type it correctly first time!
Which company are you thinking of for hosting and design??0 -

lol - Gustav I did ask didn't I - you try thinking of somthing ''catchy'' that hsnt been registered and they now want £1000 for - well if you do tell me !!!
Re hosting Herman- An american site called Merchant Mums - has been reccomended by a friend who already has a site -0 -
If you have ar want a shpooing cart option you could try http://www.oscommerce.com/ and set it up yourself as its not impossible and their is a lot of support, also have the name ilovebrandsforless.com or .co.uk if in the uk I and I mean I would go for .co.uk firstly unless your selling overseas to the states as americans dont know that .co.uk exists
lol so you could have both domains .co.uk and com 0 -
sweetnothings.org is still avialable!
http://www.123-reg.co.uk/

what about brands4less or ilovebrands4less easier then ilovebrandsforless0

best to have names without - or _ in them, also you should check for trademarks and any copyright issues as you dont want to create a shop to have someone send you a C&D letter later down the line when its popular0

My tip is to use a name that doesnt actually say what the business does. Dont think it necessarily helps (Amazon, Ebay, Tesco, Dixons, get my drift?...)
Probably no more than three syllables.
Grab a detailed atlas from the library, and use a decent sounding placename from Africa, or somewhere similar.
I have one domain named after my favourite street in Paris (no, not Champs Elysees!!), and one with the name of an African town.
Means nothing, but sound really funky!!
Try it.:TI know nothing - really!!0 -
Hi Gustav - I did sort of think of that sort of thing as I know it can limit what you sell - but wasnt brave enough lol - Will have a look Thanks0
