I have sent my details to Neil, as requested, but have not had an answer yet.
I'm assuming that if someone contacts BT to cancel under the above terms, they will lose their number when migrating to another provider.
You wouldn't expect to lose it as a matter of course.
You might lose it if they switched you off before you organised a new company to take over the line, but these days a switch is done in 2 weeks.0 -

This is what I'm referring to. You could be switched off before the new provider took over, as they are not obliged to wait for two weeks?0 -
This is the point we need clarifying by the BT rep (they seem to be avoiding the question).

If we don't get a response soon then our 10 days will be up - perhaps that's what they want.
Anyway, I'm off to Sky on the special O2 deal; had the satellite dish & Sky+HD box installed today, the phone + broadband should be switched by the middle of this month.
I've advised BT that I'm leaving due the price increases and had a note put on to my account to that effect.
So goodbye BT (after 21 years )

According to their website the 10 days don't start until they inform us "personally":If, as a result of these price changes or changes to terms, you decide to terminate your affected service(s), you may do so without incurring the Early Termination Charge(s) that may otherwise be payable. If you wish to exercise this right you must contact us within 10 days of receiving the notification sent to you personally.
But the BT rep is taking unfair advantages of his privileged position by being allowed on MSE by cherry picking which queries he answers! The questions asked of him above are relevant, and deserve a reply here.
The quote above doesn't actually match what the rep said about us cancelling "without penalty".
If we cannot get a refund of any line rental paid in advance it's hardly penalty free to leave now!0 -

Did you order Sky first, so your line is not cancelled ?
Does the 12 month Sky contract start from today, as you had your tv equipment or in a few days when your bb and phone are sorted ? Important to know for future use.0 -
