These are my circumstances, but I know that other forum members are in the same position and would welcome information.

My line rental saver ends on October 27th, so I'm paid up to then.

If I choose to go with another provider and they choose to inform BT on (say) 4th October and take over on (say) October 15th, how much would I have to pay BT?

I understand that 30days' notice is required but new providers appear to take over within this time. Also,if they act on October 15th, I would still be in contract, though paid up, so would there be any penalty ? ( A foreign call centre person told me there would not be, but questions to these call centres are not always understood)

Further, if I decided to return to BT (to my present address), would there be a new line charge and could I keep my number, which I would have taken from BT to the new provider ?

    Hi,

The 30 days notice period would take effect from the date we are informed of the transfer. I would need to look at your account info to answer the other questions so please use the contact details in my profile to send over your details and I will be happy to help.

    Thanks

I cannot send you information to the site as it will not let me use a Hotmail address. Is there some other way of contacting you, as you have no pm facility ?

Neil - I tried to contact you by replying to the email you sent me last year when BT made such a mess of my new contract and Line Rental saver agreement and which you sorted for me. I also asked a few questions about realigning the dates of my 12 month contract with the LRS and also the introduction of a charge for BT Privacy at Home.

However the reply I received yesterday simply directed me back to your website and didn't address any of my concerns. I have replied to that email asking for clarification but no reply as yet.

To be honest I am not impressed so far and considering going elsewhere.

    Can you help?

As I understand it, we have 10 days from receipt of the BT price increase notifications when we can cancel our BT contracts without notice or penalty (I have received one letter and one email in the last few days).

I would expect that this could be incorporated with a change of landline supplier?

Neil (BT rep), can you confirm this please (ie no penalty charges for changing supplier)?

    Thanks in advance

Would this not involve asking BT to cancel and so losing your present number ? New providers suggest that they make the approach on your behalf.

    Not sure.

Where's Neil when you need him?

    Hi teddysmum & Jem16,

You can use the contact details in my profile to get in touch with us. We'll give you a shout back.

Scrounger is absolutely right. If you contact us within 10 days of receiving the notification we've sent to you personally, you can give us notice to cancel your services without penalty.

    All the best,

Please can you answer this, BT Rep Robbie:

What happens to those who want to cancel but have prepaid their line rental using the 12 months in advance, which is "non refundable".

Will this then be refunded in full pro rata if we take up your offer to "cancel without penalty"?
  • BT Robbie please can you advise,

Many of us also have BT infinity and our contracts still have time to run. If we cancel our BT line rentals due to price increase, will we end up still having to pay off our BT infinity contracts in full.

    Thankyou for advise in advance

    Rob

I have sent my details to Neil, as requested, but have not had an answer yet.

I'm assuming that if someone contacts BT to cancel under the above terms, they will lose their number when migrating to another provider.
