I Need Advice with hire car company please

I was recently involved in accident which was the other drivers fault. There insurance company arrange a hire for me while mine was getting repaired I had it for around 2 weeks.

When returning the car.

I picked up my fixed car around 17.30 on Friday so I kept my hire car at my house until Monday morning because I was working on the Saturday and could not return it plus they are close on Saturday around 12.00pm and Sunday there closed too. So I returned my hire car at 8.15am on Monday morning.

3 weeks later I get a phone call to say I owe £25.00 for a days hire because the insurance I was claiming off will only pay 24 hours after my car is collected from the garage. So that leaves me with the bill for Sunday even know they are closed I can`t return the hire car to them.

So I rang them up and they said I have to pay the outstanding amount. I know it`s only £25.00 But I didn't realise that they can pick up the car on Saturday or Sunday I assumed there are shut but they say they have other sites open. They could of told be this when I went to collect the car on how to return the car when there office is closed.

if I don`t pay what will they do or should I just pay up and forget it happened My first Ever hire car.

All seems reasonable to me. In fact considering you returned the hire car 2 full days later the charge of £25 is a bargain.

If you are claiming off your insurance, it is probably right.

If you are claiming off the other driver, I think that the £25 should be down to them, because you could claim that although you could have returned the car on Saturday within 24 hours, you would also have had a further consequential claim for loss of earnings on the Saturday, which would have been higher.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

I was claiming off the other driver but because I could not take the hire car back on Saturday before 12pm because i was working and sunday there shut but other sites are open i just thought you had take it back where you got it from. Apparently they pick cars up to which i didn't even know. Why don't they tell you this information or a little pack with the information on when hiring the car. Oh well i will learn from experience i guess.

Whats saturday got to do with it, the day in question was the Sunday, 24 hours late, Saturday was covered by the insurance.

    With respect
    • I first mentioned Saturday as the day on which the car should have been returned
    • And in the second instance I mentioned it as the day on which OP worked in the morning
Overall, I think it is a failure of comprehension on your part, rather than me mentioning Saturday in vain.
